Have You Done Anything Yet?

by Erik Wennerstrom on February 2, 2010

Warning, cheesy 80’s alert! There you have been warned and you read further at your own risk.

The video clip is of the opening scene of the movie Vision Quest(affiliate link), a 1985 movie about a high school wrestler played by Matthew Modine. I will admit that I do like this movie and own a copy as well (some of you out there are not brave enough to admit it, we know who you are). The movie is about Louden Swain’s quest to  make his mark in his senior year by beating the undefeated state champ, Brian Shute.

There are a couple of memorable quotes in the movie and in the opening scene Louden states that he just turned 18 but wasn’t ready for it because he hadn’t done anything yet.  Everytime I watch the scene, that statement always hits me like a ton of bricks and I ask myself if I have done anything yet. It causes me to pause and think of those things that I have already accomplished and those things that I still want/need to accomplish.

Have I done anything yet? What a great question to ask ourselves on a regular basis.

What about you? Have you done anything yet?

  • I find myself asking that same question with every new year and every birthday. It's a healthy question, but one that needs to be governed in context of personality type. For some, the answer to that question is easy. For others, the answer will always be No. I am an "other". Thankfully, I have come to realize my problem... The question is not for me to answer.

Thanks for the thought provoking post.

    Best,

  • Andy,

Thanks for the comments. My problem is I think of too many things I want to do and have to focus on a few.
