This post marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life, being a blogger. This is my first post and so I guess I am now officially a blogger.
I have wanted to get this blog going for awhile now yet never seemed to manage to just get it done. As I was thinking about how long it has taken me to do this, I started asking myself what the reasons were for such a delay. Just like every new adventure we embark on, there comes a mix of emotions and this was no different.
This new chapter in my life has brought me the following over the course of the last few months:
- Fear – I went through stages of being afraid that nobody would ever read it and it would be for naught or that it will never be as good as the blogs that I read regularly.
- Stress – As the clock ticked and the months went by with the blog as an unchecked box on my to do list, my stress level around it began to rise. The impact of this was that I avoided doing any work on it because I wasn’t enjoying it which, naturally, increased the stress I was feeling about not having it done…vicious cycle.
- Unbounded Energy – At various points in the process I have been energized and excited as things were humming along and I was reaching my milestones. These points include buying the domain name, choosing the wordpress theme, installing widgets, formatting sidebars and now publishing my first post.
I have felt these same emotions while training for the endurance events I compete in, which include triathlons and marathons. My blogging efforts picked up steam when I reminded myself of the reasons I train so hard and push myself physically. I am motivated by the satisfaction and sense of accomplishment they give me, the impact they have on my overall health and the sense of belonging that comes with being a part of a larger community sharing a common goal or interest. In addition, I am always honored and proud when someone tells me I have been an inspiration to them in their own fitness activities.
I realized the blog is not much different. I am creating this to contribute to the overall discussions taking place around topics that interest me and as a result become a member of those communities. I hope that people find value in what I have to say the same way I find value from hearing what others think. Once I figured this out, the blog became less and less of a chore and more of an enjoyment as it came together.
With that said, the site is now live and I will be posting regularly. If there is something you like or find helpful please let me know and if you discover a common interest we have then please reach out to me, I am always looking to meet new people and share experiences with them.
One final note, if there is a new chapter in your life that is waiting to be written, please don’t hesitate. Pick up the pen and start writing it, you may just surprise yourself.
